PIP payment dates: how the four-week cycle and bank holidays work

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is usually paid every four weeks, straight into a bank, building society or credit union account, according to GOV.UK.
The exact payment day is not set by a single national rule. Instead, the decision letter that confirms an award states “what day of the week you’ll usually be paid”, so the day differs from one claimant to another.
What happens if a payday falls on a bank holiday?
“If your payment date is on a bank holiday, you’ll usually be paid before the bank holiday,” GOV.UK says. “After that you’ll continue to get paid as normal.”
Under the official bank holidays list, the next two bank holidays across England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland fall on 25 December 2026 (Christmas Day) and 28 December 2026 (the Boxing Day substitute day). A claimant whose usual four-weekly payday lands on either date would, under the bank-holiday rule above, be paid on the last working day beforehand.
How much is PIP worth?
PIP has two parts, a claimant can be awarded one or both parts depending on how their condition affects daily living and getting around, GOV.UK says.
