The Bank of England will announce its next decision on Bank Rate on Thursday 5 November 2026, according to the Monetary Policy Committee dates the bank has published.

Bank Rate stands at 3.75%, which the bank describes as “the core interest rate in the UK”.

The committee last announced a decision on 17 September 2026, voting to hold Bank Rate at 3.75%.

The vote was 6–3. The three members in the minority wanted to raise Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 4%.

Inflation since the last decision

On 21 October 2026 the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 3.5% in the 12 months to September. That is up from 3.1% in August, and transport, particularly motor fuels, made the largest upward contribution to the rise in the annual rate.

The bank had already written in its September summary that CPI inflation “increased to 3.1% in August and is likely to rise further over coming quarters”. Policy, it said, is being set to “ensure inflation comes down to 2% sustainably”.

The dates page says nothing about what the committee will decide on 5 November.

What a change in Bank Rate does

“Higher interest rates mean higher payments on many mortgages and loans”, the bank says on its Bank Rate page. Saving also becomes more attractive, because the returns are higher. Lower rates, the page adds, can have the reverse effect: payments on mortgages and loans go down and savers get a smaller return.
